GROWTH IN REVENUE & PROFITABILITY FOR KING’S POINTE WATERPARK OPERATIONS DESPITE SHORTER SEASON

16 Nov 2011

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Nov. 16, 2011) – An unusually cool and rainy kickoff to the waterpark season in June 2011 had King’s Pointe Resort & Waterpark staff members concerned about their chances for a successful summer. However, even though the outdoor waterpark was open for 11 less days this summer, the operation finished with the most successful season since the facility opened in 2007.

“We focused on efficiencies in our operations and executed a more aggressive advertising and social media effort,” said Nick Edwards, recently named general manager and former director of waterpark operations, King’s Pointe. “The consistency and performance of the waterpark staff led to excellent guest experiences. Combined with increased efficiencies, we were able to deliver higher revenue and operating income while decreasing expenses.”

Among the highlights in King’s Pointe’s 2011 annual waterpark report:
• Average daily attendance continues to increase year over year
• Season pass sales were up 40 percent year over year due to a successful promotion
• The waterpark operation achieved the highest total operating income since the facilities opened in 2007
• Overall, the waterpark operation grew three percent in total revenue while decreasing overall expenses by 18 percent

For the first time, King’s Pointe conducted a satisfaction survey of waterpark guests over the summer to obtain feedback for the management team and staff. While the total number of survey participants was just over 300 individuals, more than 95 percent of survey respondents ranked King’s Pointe waterpark operations as excellent or good in the areas of safety, cleanliness and customer service. Survey results will be used to review 2012 offerings in the waterparks and incorporate viable suggestions into short-term and long-term planning.

Edwards added that the season pass promotion begins again December 1, just in time for the holiday shopping season. Visit kingspointeresort.com to purchase online or call toll-free 866-552-5960.

NEWS RELEASE
The Rumbles at King’s Pointe April 14th!

The Rumbles are set to perform at King’s Pointe Resort in Storm Lake on April 14th at 8:30 p.m. as part of their Final Tour. Tickets for the show are $15 and can be purchased at the resort front desk. Only 300 tickets are available, so make your order quickly.

The Rumbles have been one of the most popular and successful rock and roll dance bands in the Midwest for almost 50 years. In addition to “original Rumble” Steve Hough, the current lineup includes guitarist Gayle Adams, bassist Todd Henseler, and keyboardist/guitarist Tim Vasquez.

The storied group began in the early 1960s as a teenage garage band in Council Bluffs.

The Rumbles seemed on the verge of national stardom in 1968, when their debut single “Jezebel” hit the billboard chart and scored #1 n many midwest markets. Several more recordings followed. After the first of several lineup changes, the band regrouped, but by then psychadelic hard rock was taking over, and good times dance bands like the Rumbles were starting to disappear. The members soon disbanded for other bands or pursuits. In 1979 they were asked to do a “reunion” show in Omaha, and the concert was such a hit that the group re-formed later that year, and has been playing constantly ever since.

After five decades of traveling all over the Midwest entertaining generations of loyal fans at over seven thousand performances, The Rumbles have announced that 2012 will be the beginning of their final tour. A final performance date during their 50th anniversary in 2013 has not yet been established

The Rumbles still continue to draw crowds of rock and roll bands far and wide and have done more street dances than any other band in the area during their long, successful career. The group will perform original songs, cover songs from several generations, and new hits including Lady Gaga.

Make your visit a weekend affair in Storm Lake. Purchase two or more tickets to the Rumbles and receive $25 off a standard waterpark overnight stay. The Spring Retreat is also available – including two night’s stay in a standard room, 4 waterpark passes valid during your entire stay, 4 free breakfast passes to the on-site Regatta Grille, and 4 movie theatre passes to the Fridley Theatre.
